Job Description

The Department of Performing Arts - Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) Program at St. Mary's College of Maryland is accepting applications for the position of Technical Director/Lighting Designer of Theater beginning August 2025.  The Technical Director/Lighting Designer of Theater is responsible for supporting the TDPS program through the management of the technical, design, and production aspects of the program in collaboration with program faculty and designing lights for our three-production mainstage theater and dance season in the Bruce Davis Theater. Additionally, this person teaches the equivalent of three to seven credit hours per semester as determined by program needs, generally in stagecraft and production lab(s) with the possibility of lighting design or stage management, and should be up-to-date with or willing to train in industry standard rehearsal and production practices, software, and equipment.

Qualifications: Must have an M.A. or M.F.A. or equivalent professional experience. Expertise in lighting design is essential and sound design is desirable.  Professional theatrical experience is beneficial, but not necessary. Computer competency in (Windows/Mac platforms),computer data acquisition systems, database management, and spreadsheet data analysis. Some teaching experience is preferable. Budget management experience is a must. Ability to lift at least twenty-five (25) pounds. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check. The salary range is $74,000 - $84,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
